This amazing combination tour brings together a 2-day Mount Toubkal trek in the High Atlas Mountains and a 3-day Sahara Desert adventure, offering a perfect balance between mountain trekking and desert exploration.

The journey begins with a transfer to Imlil, the main gateway to Mount Toubkal, where you will start hiking through spectacular Atlas Mountain landscapes and traditional Berber villages. Accompanied by an experienced local guide, you will explore the High Atlas and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views.

After the mountain trek, the adventure continues south toward the Sahara Desert, where you will experience a memorable camel ride across the golden dunes of Merzouga. Spend a night in a traditional nomadic desert camp under the stars and discover the unique beauty, silence, and culture of the Moroccan Sahara.

 

Itinerary

DAY One: MARRAKECH – IMLIL 1700M – TOUBKAL REFUGE 3207M

After breakfast we have 1h 30 drives to Imlil village, and we will begin the trek. Heading along the Ait Mizane Valley, we first pass Aremd village and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. We then continue east and by crossing the flood plains our route take us along mule tracks and up into the high rocky cliffs above the valley crossing the river we eventually come to the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims. From here the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline in ( in winter ) and the Toukbal Refuge (3207m), our stop for the night, Approx 4 to 5hrs walking. Height difference 1507m between Imlil and Toubkal hut.

Day Two: TOUBKAL REFUGE 3207M – TOUBKAL SUMMIT 4167M – AROUMD VILLAGE 1940M

Very early in the morning, you will start to climb this beautiful summit that is the Toubkal, the highest 4167m, a grandiose panorama North Africa in the south or Siroua lies, the only mountainous massif in Morocco with the cultivation of saffron, west of M (goun where the brightness is clear, all the plain of Haouz and all the surrounding After the peak, return back to the refuge for lunch and continue the descent Aroumd village 1940M. Accommodation in Lodge. 9 to 10 hours of walking

Day Three: AROUMD VILLAGE – TIZI N’TICHKA – TELOUAT KASBAH – AIT BEN HADDOU – OUARZAZAT – GORGE DADES

First we cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass of the High Atlas Mountains. You will pass through many Berbers villages, and once in the desert, riverside oasis and barren hillsides are clustered with Kasbahs. After lunch we drive further to Valley of the Roses, with beautiful views of the Dades valley, valley of a thousand Kasbahs. Overnight in Dades.

Day Four: GORGE DADES – MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast we drive to Todra Gorge and after a short stop there we drive on to "Auberge" at the dunes of Erg Chebbi We will arrive there around 4 and after a short break you will ride camels into the dunes, where you will spend the night in Berbers tents. After seeing a beautiful sunset you will enjoy a fantastic dinner.

Day Five: MERZOUGA DESERT - MARRAKECH

After viewing the most beautiful sunrise and having breakfast at the camp site you will ride the camels back to the Auberge from there it will be a long day driving back to Marrakech, again via Tichka pass.

Clothes & Equipment

Clothing should be chosen according to the altitude and environment you will be trekking in. Most of the hike takes place at high altitude in remote mountain areas, where temperatures can change significantly during the day. Weather conditions are generally colder at higher elevations, especially in the early morning and evening.

Trekking Clothing

  • Trekking boots or lightweight walking shoes (comfortable, well broken-in footwear is essential—do not break in new boots during the trek)
  • Tracksuit and lightweight shoes for use in lodges or refuges
  • Two pairs of wool or thermal socks (for trekking boots and lodge shoes)
  • Warm down jacket and waterproof rain jacket with hood
  • Warm hat for cold conditions and sun hat or cap for sunny days
